We got breakfast at Kungfu, a fast food type place that cost about 50 cents for some juice and a bun and grabbed some snacks at the bakery before heading to the airport. It was an hour taxi ride.
Our bad luck with flights continued. The only fun thing about the airport was that the model on one of the ads looked a lot like our friend Gina. We speculated about her secret career modeling in Asia.
We were delayed for seven hours. They must have some laws about making people wait in airports in China because they led everyone to a bus and took us to check into a hotel after about an hour of waiting. They handed out four free meals while we waited (none very tasty.) Apparently other countries haven’t gotten all cheap about food on planes like in the States. When we got back to the airport they handed each passenger about $100 back as an apology. I have to say, it was done somewhat smoothly even though the delay was a pain. It was only a 2 hour flight so the wait was much longer than the ride.
When we got in we took the high speed rail. Everyone in Taiwan seems to be exceptionally proud of this train. It goes a distance equivalent to New York to DC in about an hour and a half. Danny likes to launch into speeches about how great it is and how we should build one in the states.
We finally got off the train around 11:00 pm and met the first of many of Danny’s relatives.
